A hangover is unpleasant physical pain resulting from the consumption of alcohol. It can consist of nausea, fatigue, weakness, stomach pain and headache. An intense throbbing headache is one of the most common symptoms of a hangover. The best way to prevent a hangover headache is to either not drink alcohol, or to limit alcohol consumption to one drink per day. Since this is not always realistic, there are other ways to avoid waking up with a piercing headache. In order to prevent a hangover headache, it is important to understand what causes a hangover. Alcohol is a diuretic, which causes dehydration due to more frequent urination. Alcohol also has an effect on prostaglandin, which regulates pain. It can cause inflammation, which results in swollen blood vessels. Alcohol causes the liver to make less glucose, which puts a strain on cells in the brain. It also disrupts sleep, which can contribute to a hangover.
There are several tricks to avoid waking up with the excruciating headache that usually accompanies a hangover. Eating a greasy meal before consumption of alcohol will slow the absorption of alcohol by the body. Eating a lot of carbohydrates will allow the body to stock up on the glucose that will not be produced due to the alcohol in the system. Drinking fruit juice between alcoholic drinks will also help replenish the glucose that is lost by alcohol consumption. Drinking water during and immediately after drinking will help combat dehydration. Drinking alcoholic beverages slowly will allow the body time to process the alcohol. Clear alcohol is a better choice than dark as clear beverages have less of an inflammatory effect on blood vessels. Sometimes aspirin can be helpful in preventing a hangover.
There are many different types of hangover cures that people use in the morning, here is what I found to be helpful. I don't get hangovers often but when I do I typically drink some orange juice right when I wake. After the juice I drink a lot of water to flush out the alcohol in my system. I also eat some fruit, I like bananas and apples the best, maybe some mangos if I have them in the house at the time. If I'm feeling really bad I will just sleep it off and wake up when I'm feeling better.
I eat eggs all the time but they are also good for when you have a hangover because they have plenty of protein. You don't have to pull a "Rocky Balboa" and eat the eggs raw, scramble them up. You don't need any natural hangover cures from the drug store to help you I think by going with natural foods you are better off. I also use to drink V-8 juice when I had a hangover, I don't anymore because I grew tired of it but that works well too. One more thing is to take a warm shower, not too hot and not too cold. Stay hydrated with plenty of water and you should be ready to start the day.
Over indulging yourself in a sea of alcohol will cause some problems, so you should expect to pay the price. Hangover cures are a dime a dozen so find something you are comfortable with and that does the trick and you will be fine ready to drink again.
